Your visit to Saint Francis Veterinary Specialists will begin with the opportunity to meet with the doctor who will be caring for your pet. At that time, the doctor will ask you questions about your pet’s health history, perform a physical examination, and review previous test results. The doctor will discuss recommended procedures and treatments and answer any questions you may have regarding recommendations or your pet’s health condition.
If your pet is admitted to the hospital for recommended tests, procedures or treatments, the doctor will confirm a time for a follow up phone call to discuss the outcome of all tests or procedures and confirm a time that your pet can be discharged. Most patients referred to the Internal Medicine service are discharged between 3 and 6 pm the day of admission. If your pet is admitted to the hospital for intensive or continuous care, the doctor will confirm times to call you with regular updates. Both you and your primary care veterinarian will receive a written summary at the time of your pet’s discharge from the hospital.
If your pet will be staying with us for the day and you wish to stay in the area, we recommend that you consider spending your time in downtown Decatur which is 5 minutes away by car. Amenities include a variety of shops, restaurants, coffee shops, parks and a public library. The Dekalb International Farmers’ Market and Kudzu Antiques are nearby as well. Our receptionists can provide you with a Decatur map and additional information about the area.
